Love In A Cold Climate If the miles they were but minutes You’d be back in just three days But if the minutes they were miles Wrap up warm it cold out there today Well no I can’t listen to your records no more And hearing you sing’s like nailing my heart to a cross Love in a cold climate brings me down If every time we’d had was but a leaf upon a tree Then it must be late in fall (as I now fall in loneliness) As every leaf must settle with its fate in peace I resign and lay down with my loss Oh well I wish that the courage I had wasn’t so dutch As I always turn up late if I turn up at all Love in a Cold Climate brings me down And I wonder how I’d do now I’ve knocked off the sauce And though more apt to feel the cold when the temperature drops Love in a cold climate brings me down But the world goes on It goes on (x5) (x2) Break Oh well I wish that the courage I had wasn’t so dutch As I always turn up late if I turn up at all Love in a Cold Climate brings me down And I wonder how I’d do now I’ve knocked off the sauce And though more apt to feel the cold when the temperature drops Love in a cold climate brings me down But the world goes on It goes on (x5) (x2)

Undone Last night I dreamt that I was homeless I dreamt I was an orphan I dreamt I was alone And in the branches of the tree in which I was sleeping I heard my brother’s voice behind me Anton had come to take me home He said in the forest old tracks they are blocked now But new ones they are forming They’re trying to circumvent the old And in the forest there is now a clearing Where nothing ever changes Where nothing’s bought nor sold And I have come undone (x3) Once Again Break Last night I dreamt that I was homeless I dreamt I was an orphan I dreamt I was alone And in the branches of the tree in which I was sleeping I heard my brother’s voice behind me Colin had come to take me home He said in the forest old tracks they are blocked now But new ones they are forming They’re trying to circumvent the old And in the forest there is now a clearing Where nothing ever changes Where nothing’s bought nor sold And I have come undone (x3) Once Again

Up onto to Douglas and head into Sunset Hang a left when we hit Sepulveda We can go Olympic or we can take Pico Right down to the pier I love my lover (x3) Though I’m hoping that she comes find me. Break Hey there Root Face Key Do you know where it is we’re going ? Hey there Root Face Key Do you know where it is we’re going ? Hey there Root Face Key Do you know where it is we’re going now? Accidents Were Made To Happen Shit’s gathering as clouds in the sky It’s ready to rain down on my parade As she’s gathering up all of her stuff She’s packing her bag like there’s no tomorrow Well maybe not for her See accident were made to happen Take care while descending the stairs Remember to look both ways at the bottom But who’d of thought of looking up In time to see that flower pot come crashing down From on high window sill An accident waiting to happen Well officer why did this happen to her Well I’ll put on a brave face And as for this suitcase, I’ll take all this old shit to Oxfam Shit’s gathering as clouds in the sky It’s ready to rain down on my parade As she’s gathering up all of her stuff She’s packing her bag like there’s no tomorrow Well I think there’s no tomorrow Well I know there’s no tomorrow Well for her there’s no tomorrow Coz I’m an accident waiting to happen

Root Full of Soul When I die don’t bury me Just hang my body in the old yard tree And all the snakes and all the birds Can line their nests with my soft inners But hey, now don’t be afraid it’s okay. See sinews laid and swept these floors And tooth and nail helped hang these doors And blood it piled up every stone With a belly full of love And a root full of soul But hey now don’t be so afraid But hey now don’t be so afraid But hey now don’t be so afraid Lay down Whispers, short years, back stab, cold fears Poison waters, sons & daughters Running, creeping, laughing and a-weeping And all of it is seeping into the cracks in the floor But hey, now don’t be so afraid it’s okay. When I die don’t bury me Just hang my body in the old yard tree All the rats and all the lizards They can feast for a week On my fat liver But hey, now don’t be afraid it’s okay. Woman it’s okay Man it’s okay Child it’s okay Girl it’s okay Goy it’s okay We’re going to be okay

Liberty A-Bomb! Oh Liberty I see you there You’re dancin’ in your underwear And you fancy me and have no care Bout my dribbling mouth and my vacant stare But take care what you touch as I’m apt to explode like an a-bomb Oh sweet Liberty she has no need Of politics or war or greed She just takes my hand and dances round And lifts the smile from out of my scowl Take off your gloves but please handle with care she’s an a-bomb And I dream I’m in love Dream that I’m loaded It feels like I’m caned Like I’m well coked And well when I drop like a stone Well hell, there’s no better place to go Blown open wide on the ride of my life by an a-bomb Oh merciful and sparingly She breezes through inside of me And she’s floating secrets down my spine To tell the world that all is fine Sweet Liberty’s ringing all of my bells without a warning And I dream I’m in love Dream that I’m loaded It feels like I’m caned Like I’m well coked And well when I drop like a stone Well hell, there’s no better place to go All things combine to reach critical mass in an a-bomb At dawn I dream Liberty’s beside me Spooning round my eiderdown As I dose she whispers “Hello, my one and only” But when I rise My sweet liberty fades Oh she’s places to go and no she does not like her days So just cut to the chase and come bring on the party Liberty holds every night in my head Ah sweet Liberty I still see you there Still dancin’ in your underwear Do you still fancy me and have no care Bout my dribbling mouth and my vacant stare We go up in the air and explode 8-miles high like an a-bomb And I dream I’m in love Dream that I’m loaded It feels like I’m caned Like I’m well coked And well when I drop like a stone Well hell, there’s no better place to go Young lonely men who must sleep by themselves Wish Liberty when their eyes close at twelve She’s an a-bomb (x2) Sweet little a-bomb Oh you’re my Liberty A-bomb

For Gahourtis Man Well it seems you snuck away whilst I was playing frogger on the motorway Standing on the Bell Rock with a pint and a fag. And in your ear they whisper time and up above your head the lights they brighten It’s sad to see you go but we’ll always have one for the road I’ll keep an eye on our scores, but now we’re in this crap division Thanks for the help in telling my left from my right Mum says you never felt worse but I’ve always loved ‘the curse’ Break And as they stepped out from the kirk they said in all your life you’d never heard Death Is Not The End played so badly before. So still you make them smile and if you sit up now just as you’re lying I swear I’ll hear you laugh as you spy the Rock of Elvis And above the gorge lightening roared It hissed and fizzed as I was singing Green Grow the Bloody Rushes – Oh! And once more for what it’s worth It’s like the woman says It’s like the woman says It’s like my mama says For what it’s worth I’m glad that you branded on my curse

The Joyless Mr Kahn Oh baby, undertake the protocols. Well it’s the swearing in of endless and godless oaths Executed quite explicitly; So expressionless, so cold. You see Hotwig and Aspden They’re claiming to have never met the man Just the body of the notary; The model know as Kahn Well just let him be Oh so what if he’s a bloody freak And it’s not that he’s not beautiful No he’s just unusual. “Received with thanks!” Well it’s remote, controlled, delivery by hand. Oh he’s a hollow void of certainty, Why he’s the joyless Mr Kahn. Well just let him be Oh so what if he’s a bloody freak And it’s not that he’s not beautiful He’s just unusual. BREAK Oh so just let him be Oh so what if he’s a bloody freak And it’s not that he’s not beautiful No he’s just unusual. (x2) Oh so just let them see How unique you can be Coz you know you’re not “not beautiful” No you’re just unusual Oh so just let him be Oh so what if he’s a bloody freak And it’s not that he’s not beautiful No he’s just unusual. Oh so just let us be Oh so what if we’re a bunch of freaks And it’s because we are unusual That makes us the most, most beautiful.

Were I Were Blind Were I were blind Then I could see Well I could see as well as any sighted man Just how blind I’ve been And I bless the lie for letting me bathe in your eyes Though once and once only. Break Were I were blind Then I could see Well I could see as well as any sighted man Just how blind a man can be And I bless the lie for letting me bathe in your eyes Though once and once only.

She’s So Loveable Is it possible that I can get more love? And is it possible that you come down on me from above? Can I get more love? And is it possible that I can see you now? If it’s not possible I’ll have to throw a fit and spit the whole day down ‘Cause you give more love but I just can’t see how, Though I’m not saying it’s not possible Is it possible that angels live on stars? Well it must be possible ‘cause when I see you I see the Aurora Borealis. Angels live on stars. And is it possible that I can see you now? If it’s not possible I’ll scratch my skin and bone until I scream and shout Cause you give more love than space and time allow. So I’m not saying it’s not possible. No I’m not saying it’s not possible (x2) BREAK I’d like to thank, yes well I’d like to thank Your Mama and your Papa Oh I’d like to thank, yes well I’d like to thank Them for bringing you down from the stars And keeping you on the earth, safe from the rest of the world My love’s an interstellar alien girl. And is it possible that I can see you now? If it’s not possible I’ll have to throw a fit and spi the whole day down Cause your love’s more full than the earth and moon are round So I’m not saying it’s not possible. No I’m not saying that it’s not possible (x3) Cause you’re so lovable Cause she’s so lovable Oh so loveable (x whatever)

about

Some years after Duncan (founder of Spozzle Records) saw The Cold Shoulder play in a Scottish pub, he finally got his wish and signed them to the label.
Accompanied by cohorts Ben & Cameron, Jamie Reid started recording the debut album in an old London studio, under the ever rumbling arches of Waterloo station. Recorded on analogue tape and incorporating the occasional train rumble, “Milk it” represents the best of this fast fading art of capturing a band live & kicking with all the & 1, 2, 3, 4s, squeaky chairs & missed cues.
While the tapes were still hot, they were transferred to a studio in Paris (France) for mixing and mastering, giving the band an excuse for frequent cross channel trips and the occasional Paris Gig.
After all, there’s nothing like a bit of international flavour to add that certain something to an already classic dish…
All this would off course mean nothing were it not for the fact that these 10 songs are superb;
an indication of the massive talent that Jamie has for writing supremely catchy, quirky Pop songs.
He is of that rare breed who manages to incorporate influences without sounding like them.
Sure, you’ll hear a bit of "Police" (Love in a cold climate), a bit of "Bowie" (Undone) but there’s more of Jamie Reid here than anyone else. Looking at the world from his own perspective as in the fantastic Molly Parker’s Kitchen where a Los Angeles kitchen at 6 in the morning becomes a decor for a yearning desire.
Spozzle Records are proud to present “Milk it” by The Cold Shoulder: words and music direct from the brain of Mr Jamie Reid, recorded, mixed & mastered somewhere between London, Paris & Normandy. We’d be quite happy to go on at some length about how good this album is, but I’m sure you’d rather just listen to it.
